As a single sister in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I want you to know that marriage is important to me. God has given us a Plan of Happiness and an important part of that plan is that a man and a woman should get married and have a family.
After God created Adam, He said, “it was not good that the man should be alone; wherefore, I will make an help meet for him. And I, the lord God, caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam; and he slept, and i took one of his ribs and closed up the flesh in the stead thereof; And the rib which I, the Lord God, had taken from man, made I a woman. And Adam said: This I know now is bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh… Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife; and they shall be one flesh (Moses 3:18, 21, 22, 24)
God made someone for Adam who had distinct gifts who would give him balance, help him shoulder the burdens of mortality, and enable him to do things that he could not do alone. There is power in a man and a woman working together with a unity of purpose, respecting and relying on each other’s strengths ( Sheri Dew,It is Not Good For Man or Woman to Be Alone, Jan. 2002 Ensign).
A society is strongest when marriage between a man and a woman is the basis of the society, and their different but equal gifts are recognized as important as they raise children together.
